A newly-published study has demonstrated that dolphins have names: unique whistles which refer to each individual. More than that, when a dolphin hears its own unique whistle, it responds with the same whistle. (As if to say, "I'm here!") The researchers were even able to test this directly with the dolphins: when they played recordings, each dolphin only responded to its own signature, but ignored the signature whistles of other dolphins.
Dolphins are amazing creatures. It's a pity we can't stop slaughtering them.
