Detroit files for bankruptcy

After years of struggling financially, the city of Detroit has finally declared bankruptcy. It's the largest municipal bankruptcy so far, but it's hardly unexpected. After all, the city recently had to start turning off services like street lights in some areas because so few people lived in those neighborhoods that the city couldn't afford their upkeep.
