Dental fear: totally treatable!
I love to talk about how scared I am of going to the dentist. Really! Because every time I speak out about it, several people come forward to confess that they are scared of the dentist, too.
Being phobic about the dentist is nothing to be ashamed of. And believe me, you are in very good company.
Here is something I wish someone had told me years ago: Xanax exists. And the dentist will give it to you! You can load up on Xanax before your visit, and then many dentists also offer the option of nitrous gas during the procedure if you need a little more help to get through it.
I avoided dental care for about 25 years before I found this out. I have been going to the dentist regularly for about four years now (thanks to the miracle of modern chemistry) and the difference in my oral health is amazing.
Look for a dentist in your area who specializes in fear and phobic patients. There are lots of them out there. They totally get it, and they will help you. I know it's hard to take that first step, but it's so worth it. I promise.
