The attempt has begun to salvage the ill-fated Costa Concordia cruise liner, which ran aground in January, 2012, killing 32 passengers. This is the largest salvage operation ever attempted this close to land, and it poses some truly impressive engineering challenges.
Will they be able to float the ship upright without leaking any toxic fluids? And what will happen to the ship once it's been removed from the reef outside the tiny town of Giglio? Stay tuned!
