Playoff hopes slowly dwindling.

It’s a good time to be a Lakers hater

Breath it in fans of a Western Conference team other than the Lakers. Even after their pre-season heists of two future Hall of Famers in Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, the Lakers are looking further away from a championship team with each narrow lose they incur. With playoff hopes slowly dwindling as well, the real question is, will the Lakers be able to salvage a winning team from their current shipwreck? If so, will all the pieces be willing to remain in La La Land long enough to see it come to fruition?

The big hype around the Lakers this season was getting to see Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in Lakers’ uniforms, competing next to two other future Hall of Famers in Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Though this metaphorically made many fans around the league shit their pants, the feared foursome hasn’t been able to coexist, nor even stay on the court all together, long enough to cast judgment. The current struggles have been blamed on many things, including chemistry according to Dwight Howard. Regardless, the Lakers are under .500, and are looking to miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2001-2002 season.

One interesting tidbit about the Lakers’ newfound suckiness is the fact that Dwight Howard is in the final year of his current contract. Though the Lakers did acquire D12 this off season, it was in a trade, not in free agency. Howard has been quoted saying, “…I want [play] the best that I can and I’m going to take everything I can to get what I can out of the NBA. Which for me, is winning a championship. So if I have to play on another team or do whatever I have to get one, that’s my goal.”

Whether or not Howard will jump ship on another team is a great piece in the debacle that is the Lakers 2012-2013 season. All in all, as a shameless Nuggets fan, I couldn’t be any happier (PS: Thanks for Iggy, Lakers and Philly!).
