Is Fox bringing back '24?'
If you were a devoted fan of Fox's 24 TV show, you might have good reason to start doing a happy dance. Apparently, execs at the network are seriously considering bringing Jack Bauer out of retirement. New reports suggest that Fox is considering more 24, but as a limited series - not a regular show.
Here's my question: Whatever happened to plans for a 24 movie? I know some of you might be weeping tears of joy at the very suggestion of getting a little more Jack Bauer in your lives, even on the small screen. I'm not so sure that's what I want (yeah, I know, "Who asked you?").
I actually loved the idea of a 24 movie. I recently re-watched the first two seasons of 24 and I have to say, that first season? Every single episode played like a feature film to me. Season two was good, but not quite as great. After that, well, I'm sorry but things went downhill very quickly. It wasn't quite as bad as Alias (I'm still so mad about that last, useless season), but it was close. It's hard to keep the kind of momentum going that 24 had in season one. I get it.
Kiefer Sutherland is supposedly "in talks" to star in this limited 24 series, so all together now: "Whew." Besides, it's not like he's got anything better to do at the moment, what with Fox pulling the plug on his latest drama, Touch. I tried watching Touch. I wanted so badly to like it, but I found it infinitely confusing. I don't need more confusion in my life. What I need is more Jack Bauer. Am I the only one who watches shows like Homeland and thinks, "Carrie really needs to meet and hook up with Jack Bauer?"
For now, Fox is keeping everything under wraps, but the network will give a huge "presentation" early next week, so expect some sort of news on this 24 situation soon. I think a "limited" series run for 24 would work well, though I personally would prefer a big screen adaptation.
And while we're all giddy about 24, movie or TV show or whatever, can they please bring back Chloe, too? Mary Lynn Rajskub was my second favorite person ever on that show.
