How to relocate in style
There comes a time in people’s lives when they decide to pack up their things and head from their current location to a new destination. For some, this is a small move maybe up the street or into a new house, while for others, this can be a journey of hundreds or thousands of miles. Regardless of how far your trek to a new life will be, at some point you have to break the news to your friends and family. While this can be a burden, why not own it and make it fun? Here are a few ways to break the news in a less-than-subtle-manner.
The up and go: Do you really want to go through the hassle of calling friends and family and telling them you are moving? No? Good, don’t! You are your own boss and no one can tell you the right or wrong way to move. Do it secretly in the night and let your social circle come to you to figure out why your former residence has boards over the windows.
The treasure hunt: Remember as a kid when your parents would set up a treasure hunt for you and your friends? Normally the clues were just at the right level of difficulty for you to figure them out with some effort, and completing the task led to a fantastic prize at the end. Why not bring the past fun to the present and let your friends and family use their cunning and wit to figure out where you’re moving too? All you need to do is let out the news you are moving and link your friends to the super cool blog you created dedicated to cryptically telling your new address. Your friends and family are going to love it!
The Decision: In the summer of 2010, LeBron James made one of the worst publicity moves an athlete could make. James decided to host a TV special with ESPN letting Cleveland fans know he was selling out on his hometown. Sure the Boys and Girls club of Cleveland made some good money, but the fact was, James basically made himself the biggest anti-hero in the NBA for a few seasons. While this wasn't the best idea for James’ career, this is the best idea for you to have fun with your loved ones! Filming your own “Decision,” to let everyone know you are relocating is funny on so many levels. Friends and family members will be too busy laughing at your wit to be mad about you leaving them forever. It is a win-win situation!
Enjoy selling out on your hometown! Hopefully life will treat you better where the grass is greener.
