343 clarifies their extent

Halo 5 will feature microtransactions

Yes, Halo 5 will feature microtransatctions. The news is hardly shocking, but Halo fans are pretty annoyed by it nevertheless. Microtransactions have infiltrated every corner of gaming, and Halo 5 will be no exception.

This week, development studio 343 clarified what the microtransactions would cover. They want players to know that microtransactions won't let you "buy the game," and that the game will not be "pay-to-win."

Like most other games, you can either earn points by playing, or buy them with cash. You can then exchange those points (REQ Points) for weapons, skins, etc. However, for multiplayer mode, players will only be able to deploy their cool purchased weapons by spending energy that you can only get from playing the game.

So... kind of yes, and kind of no.
