Google Glass
Brace yourselves folks, for here comes a brand new piece of technology that is going to move us humans into the world of super-cyborg enhancements. It’s called Google Glass and it’s a hands-free headset that does most of the stuff that you’d normally do on your phone. It could be the future, or it could be a gimmicky device that people will pass on, but it is indeed the first step toward integrating man and machine for the purposes of gathering information in a quick and convenient manner.
Google Glass is a headgear piece, akin to glasses, that performs a number of interesting tasks. It’s basically a smartphone that will respond to voice commands and, since it’s resting on your head instead of in your hands, it is all hands-free. Everything is displayed on a screen attached to the device so that the info feeds right on into your eyeball. What’s more, they’re making sure that, in order to be the most effective, it’s integrated with other major devices, such as Android and iPhone, via Bluetooth.
There are a few issues, naturally, concerning the transfer from phone to eyewear communication. Many are worried that people won’t want to walk around with this thing on their heads. Of course, if it really does all that it claims, wouldn’t you prefer a set of eyewear to your phone? There is also the question of its viability. Namely, those in charge want to know if they can get enough people using them for the trend to be effective.
In an effort to combat any potential stigma, Google plans on opening stores everywhere for the purpose of tutoring people, informing people and selling people on the device. They seem to have a strong start, as reviews about Google Glass are fairly positive, emphasizing that the device operates almost exactly as they’re advertising on their web page. That in-and-of-itself is a pretty positive start.
If Google Glass looks like something you might be interesting in, all you have to do is wait until the end of the year and shell out about $1500. Not a cheap date, but perhaps worth it if you’re the kind of person who needs to be on top of the tech at all times.
So what do you folks think? Are we ready to move into the age of becoming cyborg beings? Would you be willing to grab up the exterior model of eye-infowear or would you rather wait around until they can just put the device straight into your eyeball and make it even more convenient?
