DRM-free version for free

GOG letting gamers "reclaim" their copies of STALKER

One of the biggest complaints against Steam is the DRM which won't let you download and play a game without Steam running. DRM in general is a pretty hot issue in the gaming community, and it becomes a serious problem when - for example - a system like Gamespy goes down, thus rendering some games non-functional.

GOG is starting a pilot program of a new, interesting initiative: they are giving away DRM-free copies of the STALKER games to players for free. Just sign up for a GOG account if you don't have one already, and turn in your STALKER game code. Presto, you will receive a free, DRM-free copy of your game.

Will GOG be doing this for other titles? Will they be able to recapture the market from Steam? I don't know, but I am curious to find out!
