Ways to make the most boring of snacks tastier.

Four creative popcorn recipes

I am a big snacker. I like pizza, pretzels, cheese and occasionally all three at the same time. Then there are times I am snacking and I look down and think, man, I had no idea my belly was getting that big! And it's at times like that that I go out hunting and gathering for new snacks that don't carry the burden and pack the punch of pizza, pretzels and cheese.

Often I turn to popcorn, but it's boring. The most exciting thing about it is to watch it pop on the stove if you do it yourself. And if you don't, then you're putting a bag in the microwave and crossing your fingers that you don't burn it. If you're spending more time thinking about how to make your popcorn more exciting, here are some of my best ideas:

1. Garlic Popcorn with Cayenne Pepper: Decidedly not boring. I like this one a lot. It's got a kick and you can dance to it. Not for the date, though, not a good one for when you want to cuddle up and have some popcorn.

2. Chili Lime Popcorn: This is a much more subdued approach than the last. The kick is subtle, and it actually can feel a bit refreshing.

3. Sweet Seaweed Popcorn: This might be the lightest way I can think of to give popcorn a new dimension. The nice part is that seaweed is pretty savory on its own, so you can skip the extra salt that always gets stuck to your fingers.

4. Nutritional Yeast: Nutritional yeast sounds terrible. But it turns out it's amazing on popcorn. You can check out the recipe I linked to, or you can just buy some and sprinkle it on your popcorn. You'll thank me.

Happy poppy, y'all!
