Getting through those first few months with a little help from the iTunes store.
Five must-have iPhone apps for new moms
Becoming a new mom is a totally overwhelming experience. There's so much to remember! From keeping track of ounces of milk, hours of sleep, bath times and poop and pee diapers, to just finding time to relax a few minutes, it's easy to get lost in the details. These apps will make those first few weeks (or let's be honest, months) a little easier.
- Total Baby: This was, hands down, the best five bucks I spent as a new mom. This app will allow you to track sleep, feedings, diapers, baths, doctor visits and more. It is helpful to both formula feeding and breastfeeding moms alike. Don't remember which side your baby last fed on? Don't worry, it's tracked in the app.
- White Noise Baby: There are many toys and devices that will provide soothing white noise to soothe your baby. How many of them will you have available at all times, though? Are you actually going to remember to throw that little lamb in your diaper bag whenever you go out? Probably not. This app puts white noise at your fingertips all the time. My son loved the "air conditioner" and "hairdryer" noises. It features a timer, more than 15 different types of white noise, and a "rattle" screen for baby to play with.
- Kindle App: There's no easy way to say this, but you're in for some long, sleepless nights when your baby is a newborn. Reading is a quiet activity that won't wake the baby. Having the Kindle app on your phone is a must even if you have a Kindle because you'll be doing a lot of one-handed reading during those late night feedings.
- Camera+: Sure, the stock camera app gets the job done, but to have more control over your priceless photos through baby's first year, you'll need this app. It allows you to control focus and exposure before you even take the photo. After you snap the picture, you can make adjustments and edits, crop, add effects and borders. You can then save them to your phone's albums and share them via Facebook and Twitter.
- Nutrition Menu: You'll need a little boost to get those last few pregnancy pounds off. This little app is touted by Fitness Magazine as "The mother of all iPhone calorie counters." It's true. You can look up foods by brand name, restaurants and common foods. Track exercise, weight and even Weight Watchers points in one app.
New moms, I’d love your feedback on which apps you found most helpful both during and after your pregnancy.
