Exhibition Watch: Toys and Trains at NYHS

Christmas may be more than a month away, but it's never too early to get into the holiday spirit. What better way to do that than by surrounding yourself with some of the most awe-inspiring toys and model trains ever created? You can do just that by visiting the New York Historical Society on November 21st for the unveiling of Holiday Express, their exciting exhibition of artifacts from the Jerni Collection.

With more than 35,000 items manufactured from 1850 to 1940 (and assembled over a period of fifty years), the Jerni Collection isn't just a staggering assortment of antique model trains and toys – it's a window into a remarkable part of our human past. Its sole collector and former owner, Jerry Greene, made sure to acquire only the highest quality toys manufactured by European and American companies during those decades, creating a breathtaking compilation of objects.

The New York Historical Society's installation will not only exhibit wonderful items from this collection, but also bring them to life in seasonal splendor with ambient audio and visual effects. The exhibition runs from November 21st to February 22nd, so there's plenty of time to plan an all-day trip to the museum with friends of a special someone. Visit the event's page at the NYHS web site for additional details.
