eBook comparison shopping
When you shop for eBooks on Amazon, it's no problem to compare the prices. They are all listed right there, and Amazon will tell you about the differences between used & new, shipping costs, etc. When you shop for the eBook version, what you're really seeing is the one price for the Kindle version. The rest of the eBook versions don't show up because Amazon doesn't want to sell you the eBook version for some other reader- they just want to sell you the version that works with their eBook reader.
But what if you want to find out the cheapest eBook version and shop for eBooks the way you shop for print books? What if you have txtr or a few devices or some other circumstance that lets you read any kind of eBook on your device. How do you know which eBook is cheapest?
The most basic way to find out is to actually go to the different retailers and search for that title. But that's pretty clumsy.
Luzme does ebook comparison shopping for you.
How does it work? You enter the title and what countries and devices you want to compare, and they give you back results.
Luzme started in 2008 as eBookPrice.info to help people find "the eBook you want, in the format you need, at the price you like." It was founded by Rachel Willmer, a book-lover who basically wanted to solve her own problem of finding that "right" eBook as efficiently as possible.
The About page quotes Rachel as saying:
"I've always been happiest working at the bleeding edge of technology, where no-one knows what the rules are yet.
Over the last 25 years, I've had an insatiable curiousity about disruptive technologies and how their introduction into existing industries can change everything.
It's fascinating watching the book publishing industry go through the usual cycle of denial, rejection, fear, and eventually enthusiasm, growth and profit..."
Love it. This is a woman who can code who is both fascinated by the evolving book industry and emotionally intelligent enough to dissect what is going on from a psychological level in the book industry.
I can't wait to see what she does next!
