DVD alert: For 'The Dark Knight' fan who has everything
Oh boy, I'm going to have to save up some cash between now and September. I'm a huge fan of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, and now at long last we're going to get a massive Blu-ray new box set! This. Is. Happening.
Up until now, rumors of a big collector's edition of The Dark Knight trilogy (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises) were just that: rumors. Screen Crush speculated that a photo found on a Polish website might, in fact, be the long-anticipated TDK box set. I got goose bumps at the time.
Now, it is official. Warner Bros. is out with a press release that gives all the deets on what we fans can expect from this box set, which will be six discs. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I don't care about being cautiously optimistic with this - I'm diving in head first, and I have full faith that Nolan and company won't let me down with this set.
Here are some specifics, for those of you who, like me, are literally drooling at the thought of finally owning THE definitive Blu-ray box set of The Dark Knight movies. As I said, the set is six discs. They include all three films, each with special features, including two brand new featurettes. There's also a bonus disc that includes "new" special features that look pretty sweet.
Some of the new special features in The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector's Edition include a behind the scenes look at how the franchise was created and how it "changed the scope of movie making" (oh how it did, and Wally Pfister I will love you forever for it). Several people are interviewed, including Damon Lindelof, Guillermo Del Toro and Zack Snyder (the director of Man of Steel, Nolan's new project).
For me, the most interesting and/or intriguing feature of The Dark Knight Trilogy is a sit-down with TDK director Chris Nolan and Richard Donner, who directed the 1978 Superman movie. These two no doubt had a lot to discuss, what with bringing us Batman and Superman movies that we know as true classics and all.
Are you drooling yet? Because there's one more thing: This new collector's edition also has plenty of memorabilia, including Batmobile/Batpod Hot Wheels and a huge, hardcover book with all the best photos from The Dark Knight movies.
Okay I know, I know, you're waiting for the price, aren't you? Save your pennies, lots of them, because The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector's Edition, available on September 24, 2013, will run you $99.97. Ouch. Still, for me, as a superfan, it's a small price to pay to own this great Blu-ray collection!
Anyone else totally amped about this big announcement?
