If you're like me, it's hard to find enough time to get everything done. In fact, this week I've got two new clients I'm starting new projects with, family in town that I want to hang out with, and a whole lot of writing to do. And a lot of other meetings and whatnot that happen on a weekly basis. And I don't even have kids, so for those of you who do, I can only imagine!
But in an effort to understand how I can stay engaged in all of these things that are going on at the same time, I picked up a new book and I can already tell it's going to change the way I think about things.
It's called The Power of Full Engagement, by Jim Loehr. Loehr is a doctor who works on the psychology of productivity. He works with world class athletes, firefighters, and SWAT teams, essentially helping people in high stress environments learn how to focus and deliver their best when it counts.
I can tell already that I'm going to enjoy this book and that it's going to change the way I do my thing as an author. You can check out some of the key themes in the book in this great blog post from PersonalMBA blogger Josh Kaufman.
I'm just going to touch on the first and most powerful one for me so far:
To be fully engaged and productive, manage your energy, not your time.
Wow! I started reading that and realized, I do a good job of getting everything into my schedule, but I don't always do a great job of having the energy to do a good job at all of those things. But the whole point of this book is to dig in and figure out how to bring your full self to the different tasks you undertake. I love it.
Have you found yourself barely fitting everything in and feeling exhausted and unable to do those crowded activities well?
