Catherine Ryan Howard shows us all how to do it right

Blogging as an author platform

Catherine, Caffeinated is a great blog about self-publishing. Is it better than this one, you ask? Well, it's certainly more pink!

Howard is an inspiration and her blog reads authentic and real. She's a self-published author writing about what the rest of us self-published authors are thinking, feeling, going through, and trying to figure out. She's just doing it in a very public, very honest way. And she's awesome at it.

(By the way, she's doing a rad series on How to self-publish a book from start to finish this week!)

She's a voracious blogger at Catherine, Caffeinated. She writes about being a writer, and has a solid look, feel, and message about her website. Her blog is a great example of how to brand your author platform.

Here's what I think she does exceptionally well and we can all learn from for our own author platform building:

1. Consistency: She writes a lot, and has been doing it for years. Whatever you do for your author platform, doing one thing well for a while is better than trying lots of things and jumping around.

2. Branding: The visual and the attitude of her page is obvious. I think of it as power pink. And her tagline on twitter is "Writer, astronaut, skinny... Catherine wouldn't mind being any of those things. For now, she's the self-published author of some books." Sassy and awesome.

3. Book page: Once you're there reading her blog, it's an easy jump to check out her books. And the "funnel" she has built works great. She writes about self-publishing, so most of the people reading her blog are going to be aspiring writers. What kind of books do aspiring writers like? How to guides and travel books. Those are the books that she writes. Well done!

What do you think of her site and her author platform?
