Cities: Skylines talks about its influences
Many reviewers are describing Cities: Skylines as "the game SimCity 2013 should have been but wasn't." Recently PC Gamer sat down with the CEO of developer Colossal Order about the past, present, and future of Cities: Skylines, and the unique challenges it posed.
The game has been in development since 2009, but the disaster EA experienced with SimCity 2013 definitely gave the development studio a boost. It sounds like Colossal Order has been thinking about the player experience first all along, though.
For example, they never seriously considered a multiplayer mode, because it wasn't in the spirit of the game (which is all about developing your own world), and because of the potential for "anybody to kind of come and mess that up."
