Red Bull tie-in was ill-advised

Bungie under fire for latest Destiny DLC mess

It's been a bad week for major game studios. Bungie was recently forced to apologize for a series of mis-steps, including a particularly ill-conceived Red Bull tie-in with their massively popular hit game, Destiny.

First, their creative director made some snarky comments in an interview about players complaining about the price tag of the new collector's edition which came off poorly. The comments were in reference to players feeling like they are being milked for unusually high amounts of cash for expansions to the game.

In a fit of bad timing, Bungie also announced a cool new multi-stage mission for the next expansion pack, which you can only get if you buy specially-marked cans of Red Bull. On the heels of Destiny players feeling unusually price-conscious, this seems like yet another attempt to nickel and dime their players to death.

Bungie seems to be getting the message, though. They have apologized across the board, and promised to refactor their pricing structure and packages for the expansion, to be more in line with what players expect.
