An Old-Timey Romance: At the Drive-In

For those of us who grew up going to the drive-in, it's hard not to yearn for the days when they were everywhere. Drive-in movies weren't just a fun way to relax after a long week of classes - they were also the closest thing our generation had to “parking.” Bundled up beneath a blanket with your crush while the film's audio blared from the car radio, it never seemed to matter how many people were there or even what movie was playing. All that mattered was that the two of you were together in a place which seemed to exist specifically for couples like you.

With fewer than 500 drive-in theaters left in America, now is perhaps the most important time to bring back this classic date night activity. After all, it may be the last chance we have. Thankfully, New York is one of the only cities in the country determined to keep them around. There are a handful of drive-in theaters just a couple of hours away from the city and all of them are perfect for invoking some truly old school romance.

The next time you feel like taking a drive, grab your date and head out to the Warwick, Hyde Park or Shankweiler's Drive-Ins. It's likely you'll have an experience you won't soon forget.
