How one site is crowdsourcing free books.

The Readers Realm

Avid readers are always looking for the next book. With the advent of eBooks, that often means an ongoing hunt for not only big new releases and the best of the old, but also for free books on Kindle. While there are many free options for finding and downloading free Kindle eBooks it can be hard to find a trusted source for options, and even harder to evaluate those books before downloading and devoting precious reading time to finding out whether they truly do strike your fancy.

Enter The Readers Realm. They aim to address exactly that issue by asking the crowd- as in all of us- to submit reviews for eBooks we've found that we want to share with the rest of the reading community. Here's how they describe themselves:

A place where readers, writers, and reviewers connect, share good books, and find their next read! If you love books, you’ve found the realm you can call home…

And here is their call for book review entries:

Book Reviewer – Did you just finish a book that you LOVED! Tell the whole world! Write a review; increase your online presence. If we love your review, we’ll feature it as “Review of the Month” – with a bio that will help you connect with other readers who share the same interests as you, as well as authors who may give you free books for reviews!

The Readers Realm also does interviews with authors (click here if you want to request an invite) and posts a Flash Fiction contest prompt on the 15th of each month that is open for submissions.

I'm a big fan of this approach. It combines the authority/trust of a consistently updated site or blog with the power of crowdsourcing new content. One of the greatest powers of the web is that we can all recommend things to each other, and one of the biggest challenges is trying to figure out whose recommendations to trust. I have high hopes that The Readers Realm model is a synthesis that will work.

Have you used or read a book recommended by the Reader's Realm?
