Using leftovers, exploring ingredients, low-carb eating and other useful cooking advice
Practical Cooking is an exploration of cooking real food for real people living in the real world. Forget about complicated techniques, expensive equipment and rare ingredients - Practical Cooking is about what you can make for dinner tonight.
Common topics include:
- Making the most of your slow cooker. I have learned to love the slow cooker! It's so easy to use, and it's a great way to cook "difficult" (read: "cheap") cuts of meat.
- Exploring single ingredients. Ever wondered, "What do I do with ______?" Me too! I research the answer and report back the easiest, simplest ways to use interesting ingredients. Nothing too fancy - this is stuff that will be readily available in most American grocery stores.
- Low carb/Paleo recipes and lifestyle. I went low carb/Paleo/sugar-free in January of 2013. I've lost 40 pounds so far, without ever feeling deprived or hungry. You'll have to excuse me if I get on my soapbox about this topic sometimes. You all know how tiresome the recently-converted can be.
- Nutrition and diet reviews. Believe me, I have tried them all! I'm always curious to learn more when I hear about some new nutritional advice, or a wacky new diet trend.
