Saturday Steals: Summer freebies

Summertime is a time for big freebies when you’re in the know. I make myself to check for all of the free bowling, free movies and other programs every summer—but About.com actually has them all in one place! Click here to find all of the freebies in your area. When you go to the free movies, be sure to get there early—there are actually daycare centers that fill up those seats fast as their “field trips!”

Use this massive list of free homeschool checklists, planners, forms and more to get yourself organized.

Does your child love ladybugs? Here are a bunch of free ladybug activities.

And here’s an entire free unit, including the story itself, of The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse by Beatrix Potter.

Check out this fun free template for a paper globe.

I haven’t yet bought anything so I can’t offer up a review yet, but Goldie Blox looks like a really cool program. It’s a series of engineering toys designed for girls. Honestly my daughter likes things “designed for boys” better, and I am of the mindset that all toys are for all children as long as they are designed for a child and not an adult, so it would be much cooler if it were intended for all kids instead of segregating them with pastel ice cream colors. That said, I sadly know of several parents who buy their girls “girl stuff” and boys “boy stuff,” so if this encourages them to buy engineering toys for their daughters, that’s a good thing.
