Seriously, waaaaaaay too much from Marvel this week and a lot of it was painful. Here we go, superfunhappytime!

Namor The First Mutant #1- The problem with underwater characters is that everything happens underwater, and if you don’t have an artist that really wants to draw undersea adventures then your kinda screwed. And while I like Olivetti, wow there was a lot of empty space and this issue. Moore’s script is fine, this just feels like a colossal waste of time and money and no one can save it. Also, seriously Marvel, undersea vampires? I have to agree with Wolverine on this one. C
Avengers The Children’s Crusade #2- Cheung draws a mean Magneto and actually makes a Quicksilver scene look pretty awesome. Of all the Marvel plots that I couldn’t care about, Heinberg and Cheung actually make me kinda care about what happened to Scarlet Witch. Plus, the last page promises some Latverian goodness to come. A-
Deadpool Wade Wilson’s War #4- This series would be completely unnecessary if it weren’t for the Jason Pearson art. As it is it’s mostly unnecessary and too expensive. The Deadpool saturation officially hit it’s stupid point a few months back, but this week sure kept it coming. C+
Shadowland #3- Is this still going on? Daredevil’s upteenth mental breakdown continues, and oh hay it’s the Punish.....wait, when did he get better? I....did I miss that? or is Marvel being stupid? Wait, that’s an easy question, forget it. So, possessed by an evil spirit huh? Welp. So much for anything uniquely interesting coming out of this. C
Deadpool Pulp #1-If it wasn’t for the fact that this never had to ever exist ever, I would say it was kinda interesting. The plot itself is pretty basic and nothing special, but....well ok, this isn’t worth the $3.99 by any stretch. Also, any comic where Deadpool isn’t actually funny? YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG. C
Shadowland Elektra One-Shot- Elektra killing ninjas?!?! Something new and unique! Or just a bunch of obligatory filler that basically explains why Elektra bothers to show up in Shadowland. Nevermind the obvious reasons of a) having shagged Matt Murdoch, and b) oh right, Hand ninjas that aren’t dead yet. We apparently needed a $3.99 book to tell us this. C-
Gorilla-Man #3- Parker brought everything nicely together and it was a fun and decent story. My only real complaint is that it was a fairly expensive story for nothing really super special. Don’t get me wrong, I love Parker and I love Gorilla-Man, it’s just I was reading this and it didn’t reveal too much of interest and just kind of followed a fairly predictable flow. A fun read, but I was hoping for a little more. B
Incredible Hulks #612- It’s kinda fun having the family of Hulks set up, but at the same time there might actually be too many characters running around. Part of the appeal to the Hulk used to be the simplicity of the storylines. They allowed you to focus on the actual singular events and character development. Now that the Hulk world feels it has to have a huge crossover every six months, things can degenerate very quickly. Considering how ridiculous most of the supporting characters are (A-Bomb? Really?), I miss it when the book used to be just about, y’know, the Hulk? That being said, this wasn’t a bad read. I’m just a little afraid about the future of the title. B
