I am disappointed. Americans Elect was supposed to be a grand experiment in voting with an online presidential campaign for an independent voice that would put an end to the two-party system in America. Well, after months of waiting and $35 million dollars, Americans Elect fades away.

Is everyone following the major scandal involving actor John Travolta? In short (because really, I could be here all day explaining this), two masseurs have filed lawsuits against Travolta, claiming he "acted improperly" during private massage sessions. FYI: I'm keeping this PG-13, just so you know, but wow the allegations are pretty explosive, and completely scandalous. Through his attorney, Travolta has strongly denied the claims.
Things happen so quickly in this case, it's hard to keep track, but I'm trying. And just today, a major new development leads me to believe that the case against Travolta is totally starting to fall apart: One of the two masseurs involved in these lawsuits reportedly dropped his case.
Although the story is circulating that Saverin has decided to renounce his U.S. citizenship to go and live in Singapore for an indefinite period of time in order to save money on taxes, it may actually cost him in the long run according to other sources. Interestingly, this move may actually end up helping the United States.
Although, the number of Americans renouncing their citizenship has risen from 235 back in 2008 to almost 1800 in 2011, it is still very expensive to give up the U.S. citizenship. It’s not something I would do for sure.

If Claire Lomas' story isn't great news, I truly don't know what is! Lomas made headlines recently for completing the London Marathon. The 32-year-old mother is paralyzed from the chest down, but she managed to finish the grueling marathon with the help of a robotic suit.
It took Lomas more than two weeks, but last Tuesday, she finally crossed the finish line. Her story is one of perseverance and hope. News of Lomas' amazing journey offers hope to so many other people who are paralyzed, without question.
“If Trayvon Martin were white…” I find myself muttering this sentence—sometimes even shouting it at my husband, who can only nod and shrug helplessly—so often these days. The more hate I see directed to this poor murdered boy and his family, the more hopeless I feel about our country. “We have a black president!” people will cry, as if that solves everything. Having a black president means nothing if we are still participating in such ugly, violent, racist acts across the nation.
Over the last four years, American politics have become more and more polarized. The left is becoming more progressive and the right, extremely conservative. The rise of the Tea Party has moved the right even further right. So much so that popular Republican Presidents - Reagan, Roosevelt, and even Nixon would find themselves too liberal for the likes of today’s Republican Party.
The internal workings of North Korea are changing, and for the better. People in the DPRK are, with increasing technology, gaining more access to outside media, despite government efforts to keep it at bay. This was evident in the recent rocket launch fiasco, when the government decided it best to admit their failure rather than try to keep up the pretense that everything had gone okay and that reports of failure were a Western plot. They know that they can’t control things the way they used to and that the availability of information surpasses even their draconian attempts to remain insular.
Attacks on abortion freedoms have frequently consisted of cutting back funding to those who provide these services, including the removal of public funds. Now, Kansas is taking the fight to a whole new level. In the first law of its kind, they are pushing a movement to further hit the wallets of clinics by encoding the war against abortion into the state tax law.
The new law would prohibit any and all deductions related to abortions, including insurance that covers them. It hits individuals, employers and even corporations. Contributions to health care programs that offer abortions will no longer be tax deductable. Thus, charity contributions to help women in other ways, but that support institutions with abortion as an available service, are no longer viable. The law also attacks the sales of abortion drugs by raising the taxes on them.

So, I guess at first I should apologize for my rather scathing criticism of President Obama in a previous post. His denial of the legislation which would have supported gay marriage rights at first seemed a political maneuver designed to avoid losing massive amounts of votes during election time. It appears that now, however, he has finally chosen to speak out about his own personal views of gay marriage. Everyone probably knows by now (since the media has been bombarded with it), but Obama has officially announced his support for the LGBT community and their right to marry who they wish.
This election year is going to be big. The Citizens United decision, which essentially opened the flodgates to special interest funding of political candidates and campaigns, was given a trial run in 2010 and is now calibrated and greased for 2012. Obama has already raised a staggering amount of money, and Mitt Romney's conservative fundraising machine is not hanging back. A recent study highlighted in The Washington Post, showed that nearly 50% of GOP campaign advertising has been negative this year. Compare that to just four years ago, when only 6% of GOP ads were designed to attack other candidates. Of course, the polarization of the parties is only likely to intensify as we crawl closer to November. For these reasons, it's more important than ever to guard oneself again partisan politicking and special-interest spin.
